How I learned to love.. err.. deal.. :) with heavy metal music…
If you’re the parent of a teenager chances are great that you’ve heard some heavy metal music lately. You recognize it right away, by its loud and overbearing beats. The lyrics are hard to make out for you, yet every teenager within earshot seems to know them perfectly.
What most parents complain about today, they were fans of years ago; including heavy metal music. All they need to do is take a few moments and remember how much they enjoyed this type of music twenty or thirty years ago.
Finding a middle ground when it comes to heavy metal music can be a challenge. The child wants the volume at such a high decibel level that they can’t hear anything else and the parents in the house just want to hear them selves think.
A great compromise can be the use of earphones. Parents do need to be wary of these though as listening to heavy metal music through earphones at a high volume can cause hearing damage.
The best thing any parent with a child who loves heavy metal music can do is allow their child to enjoy it. Music is a great outlet for kids to express them selves. They can connect with the lyrics and really get a feeling for the artist as well as the music.
They may even want to go to a heavy metal music concert at some point. Although most parents would scoff at this idea, most concerts are perfectly safe places for teenagers and it allows them the chance to see their favorite bands in person. Those are memories they will carry with them forever and just imagine how “cool” you’ll be if you let them go.
If you really can’t get into the heavy metal music don’t fret too much. Ear plugs can be a parent’s very best friend, especially through the teenager years.
