Scrubs Aren’t Just for the Hospital Anymore
I was at the hospital recently to visit a family member and was shocked by what I saw. It had nothing to do with anyone being ill instead it was all about the people working at the hospital.
Gone were those depressing stark white uniforms that it seems nurses have been wearing since the beginning of time. I remember back in the day when those uniforms came complete with a white hat emblazoned with a bright red cross.
Now the nurses, orderlies, lab technicians and receptionists even are wearing colorful scrubs. Both men and women were dressed in stylish new scrubs in all colors including blue, orange and pink.
What struck me the most was how it immediately changes the tone of the hospital. The colorful scrubs create this warm and inviting atmosphere. The medical workers blend right in with the patients. It’s so much more comfortable than seeing people walking around in boring white dresses, pants and suits.
The style of the scrubs is also different than the green ones we’ve all seen when watching those medical dramas on television. One of the x-ray technicians was wearing a pair of blue flared pants along with a yellow and blue short sleeve shirt. Her look was professional and put together without being standoffish.
It’s not just women who are taking advantage of this new trend in scrubs. Men have choices in medical garb now as well. Granted the white lab coats aren’t going to disappear any time soon, but the men’s scrubs are looking better than ever.
For any of us, either men or women, interested in fashion, I have to say that being a nurse now has another benefit in addition to providing care to people. You can look great at the same time. It’s no longer a choice between a career in medicine and fashion, you can actually have both.
